Information for Publishers & Copyright registration benefits
NLI works on behalf of Ireland’s newspaper publishers to ensure that the copyright in the content of their newspapers is respected, and ensures those wishing to reproduce articles/extracts for commercial purposes must be properly licensed.
Since NLI’s establishment, the number of licences issued annually has grown year on year.
NLI delivers a revenue stream to publishers for the reproduction of their titles at no cost to the publisher.
Membership of NLI grants the publisher the right to copy from a fellow member's titles for internal management purposes.
Collective Rights Management societies offer publishers the best option to protect their rights.
Publishers assign NLI the copyright subsisting in original works appearing in published editions of their newspapers and mandate NLI to license other parties to reproduce those newspapers or extracts, on certain terms. The publisher retains all other rights.
